'PROTEST'S ARE A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND!'
Moulin Rouge was -IS - a movie that changed my life. It was one of the first
films after watching, had me wishing my life were like. I wished a boy would
sing to me. I wished I could dance on the clouds. I wished I wouldn't die on
stage with a group of people staring at me.
After being touched by this magnificent creation, I decided that it was MY
mission to bring this musical film, back to the screen - and so it began.
First there was the letter/petition I sent out to the media and every person
I knew:
2/13/2003
HELP! "I hope you don't mind that I put down in words how wonderful life is"
now that Moulin Rouge is in the world.
If there was ever a movie that changed my life, it was Moulin Rouge.
Cabaret? What's with her make-up? Chicago? Who was the man with the bob
haircut? Not since Grease (twenty five years ago?) has a musical motion
picture changed lives, the industry and cinematic history all across the
world. That is why I am leading a grass-roots effort to bring Moulin Rouge
back to it's rightful home, the Theatre. As of this writing, those
know-it-all execs at Fox won't let me past the damn receptionist. Help the
small but vocal minority beat the multinational conglomerate by giving ANY
TYPE of coverage you can of THIS letter along with the URL to my online
petition to demand that those "Dukes" listen to "the Children of the
Revolution"! Help uphold the Bohemian ideals of Truth, Beauty, Freedom and
above all things, Love. Help me SAVE SATINE! I'm on my hands and heels here,
people! I'll even PICKET, 20th Century Fox if I have to!!!
2/19/2003
I picketed FOX Studios. Alone. It was sad, but I loved my outfit. (Hey a
girl's got to do, what a girl's got to do! I had a mission, damn it!)
2/21/2003
Deciding that my solo picket outside FOX was not enough, I recruited some of
my fellow Moulin Rouge Drag Fans and we staged another picket. THIS TIME,
we made noise and got attention, The Vice President of the department came
down and talked to us about how he could get us closer to our goal. A
gentleman approached me from Mann Theaters, who discussed what MIGHT be
possible. We even got coverage on The Man Show and STAR 98.7! Talk about
feeling one step closer to success. I guess what they say is true:
'Protests are a girl's best friend!'

'Fox Gives MOULIN ROUGE Back to Fans for Midnight Shows - Because they
'Can't, Can't, Can't' Get Enough!'
Responding to demands from its legions of fans - including a rally in front
of its studio lot - Twentieth Century Fox has agreed to set midnight shows
of the Oscar®-winning film Moulin Rouge, exclusively at the Mann Festival
Theater in Westwood.
For the past several months, Fox says it has received a steady influx of
calls and letters demanding the film's return to theaters. The fans'
outcries culminated in a rally in front of the studio last week by a group
of colorful individuals, lead by Bridgette of Madison County, garbed in the
courtesan regalia similar to that worn by Nicole Kidman as Satine in the
film.
Commented Fox domestic distribution president Bruce Snyder: "Ever since
'Moulin Rouge' came off of theatrical release, people have been contacting
us requesting that we bring it back as a midnight show. Since the film has
become nothing less than a cultural phenomenon and helped launch the
'rebirth' of the current wave of movie musicals, like 'Chicago',
re-releasing 'Moulin Rouge' as a midnight show seems like a good idea."

OPENING NIGHT OF THE OFFICIAL MOULIN ROUGE SING-A-LONG!

The line outside The Festival Theater in Westwood, CA went well down the
block as eager moviegoers chatted about the hand-made costumes audience
members were wearing, as well as their first experiences with the film.
When the doors opened, all opening night were treated to free popcorn and
soda not to mention goodie bags filled with things to throw during the
movie, taking a page from the "Rocky Horror" handbook, to celebrate the
night's festivities. As host and master of ceremonies, Bridgette donned the
trademark black diamonds costume and the red dress worn by Nicole Kidman's
character, Satine.
"You bring your toast, your toilet paper, and so forth to 'Rocky Horror,'"
she said. "So we have little mini top hats to throw up, confetti for when
Satine first enters, and champagne poppers for the end of the 'Elephant Love
Medley!"
